In a viral video making rounds on social media, prominent political commentator Mahdi Shehu has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, as the Minister of Finance.  

The statement was made while Shehu responded to questions surrounding President Tinubu’s potential reshuffling of his cabinet members.   The video, which was posted on the official X handle of NEWS CENTRAL TV, has sparked widespread debate. Shehu, in the clip, expressed disappointment with the current performance of the cabinet, claiming that no sector in the country was operating effectively under the leadership of Tinubu’s ministers.   He argued that instead of reshuffling existing members, the President should consider expanding his cabinet by adding new faces.  

“I think rather than changing the cabinet, he should increase the cabinet. I recommend he gives more people employment. I recommend that he appoints Yahaya Bello as the Minister of Finance so that he can continue from where he stopped,” Shehu remarked.  

Mahdi Shehu’s comments also took a controversial turn when he mentioned Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son. He sarcastically suggested that the President might as well appoint Seyi to the cabinet, implying that there would be no significant difference between his appointment and those of the current ministers.
