Just In: PDP Appoints Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere as Party Leader in Imo State
Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, has been appointed as the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State.
Ugochinyere, the highest-ranking PDP official in the state, was selected by the party’s chairmen across the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Imo during a meeting held over the weekend.
The chairmen, in a statement signed by the Coordinating Chairman of the Imo PDP LGA Chairmen Forum, expressed their confidence in Ugochinyere’s leadership abilities.
They cited his past contributions, leadership qualities, and dedication to the party's ideals as key factors in his selection.
According to Daily Post, the chairmen called for unity within the party and urged all stakeholders to support Ugochinyere in his new role, aiming to revitalize the party ahead of future elections.
Additionally, the PDP leaders passed a vote of confidence in Ugochinyere and urged the removal of the party’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagun, and national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
They argued that their continued stay in office was detrimental to the party’s growth, especially as the PDP prepares for the 2027 elections.
The leaders emphasized the need for a strong and unified PDP to promote democratic values and reclaim political power in the coming years.
